When to consider another attorney for your divorce

On Behalf of | Jan 11, 2017 | Divorce

If you are thinking that your divorce is not going as smoothly as suspected, you should be able to rely on your attorney to deal with the legal issues that come about. However, if you are feeling as if your counsel is not helping you through these problems, it can create a feeling of helplessness and disappointment that no divorcee should have to deal with.

So how do you know when it is time to find a different attorney? The following factors should be your guide.

Have good communication with your attorney – Indeed, you may not be able to talk to your lawyer at a moment’s notice. Lawyers are busy and commonly juggle multiple cases. However, you should still have reasonable access to your attorney. If you feel like your attorney is ignoring you, or there is no standard or expectation on returning emails or phone calls, perhaps it is time to find someone else to handle your case.

Your attorney should make you feel good – Let’s be clear…lawyers should not sell you a bag of goods when your situation is dire, and they should not sugarcoat critical issues. However, they should be able to instill a sense of confidence in your situation by clearly explaining the pros and cons of your case.

You should feel confident in your attorney – As we said before, not everything in a divorce goes smoothly, but you should be confident that your counsel is competent and working hard for you.

If you feel that you need a change because of these elements, we invite you to contact us.
